An introduction to pastoral care

This course of six sessions is designed to enable you to 'be' and to 'care' with more understanding and provides an opportunity to begin a journey of growth and self-discovery.

Women sharingNo previous pastoral experience is required, only a willingness to learn and share. The sessions are led by an experienced tutor and provide initial insights into:

  • Self-awareness - understanding what goes on in yourself and how you relate to others

  • Theological reflection - Making connections between what you believe and how you care

  • Pastoral care in action - Learning new pastoral care skills and putting the theory into practice.

The content of the sessions is:

  • Session 1: Introducing self awareness

  • Session 2: What makes a good pastoral carer? Being and Doing skills - listening

  • Session 3: Continuing listening skills; our pastoral story

  • Session 4: Pastoral care; more about listening

  • Session 5: Telling our faith story

  • Session 6: Being and Doing skills - empathy
